Looking Forward
This post is for those who have lots of curiosity or just want to learn how to be a more-informed support to me in the coming months. A survivor shared this website with me, http://www.myselftogetheragain.org/, and it tells one young woman's story of double mastectomy, expanders, and reconstruction. Her expanders were put in during a separate surgery and mine will be put in at the time of the mastectomy, but otherwise, I think our experiences will be quite similar. It's a truly informative chronicle of everything that's involved and includes pictures, if you want to read up on what's coming for me in the next few months.
That is a very complete portrayal of the whole procedure. It is not for the "faint of heart", but for those of us close to you,a good preparation. We need to remember that everyone's experience will be different to some extent, however. Reminder: get cocoa butter! I wish school was not starting 2 weeks after your surgery, but am so thankful you have such a wonderful support group there and that we are only an hour away and can be there whenever you need Mom.

Thank you for sharing that website, Katherine; it's very real. Love you :)
