A call to service

Happy October!

This is Andrea again, and I've hijacked Katherine's blog. I know Katherine has been so appreciative of the kind words and deeds by family, friends, and many she does not even know. She talks of you often, sometimes individually and sometimes as a collective, and always with such a thankful heart at how you have been loving and serving her. Being creatures of independence and self-sufficiency, it is difficult to really let go and allow others to love you in these ways. Thank you for allowing and encouraging Katherine to be a bit vulnerable and let people serve her.

Because she was unsure how the chemo treatments would impact her, we took needs off of her calendar for a while. I think she needs a little more rest and help though so I'm putting them back (I do not think she'll argue with me). I have listed open meal times for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Other days may work, but she needs 2-3 per week. I also listed the dates of her chemo too. If you sign up to bring a meal the week after one of her treatments, bland food has worked the best (rice, sweet potato, bready-type things, bland soups or broths, etc). If you are bringing food the week before a treatment, she has been able to eat normal stuff those weeks and hopes to continue (more details on the calendar, but most foods are okay and you do not need to stick to bland foods). Or you can invite her over for dinner. Two birds and one stone: she won't have to fix dinner or do dishes. :) Are you out of town and want to serve her in some way? She lives in a great location for food delivery :) Also, I did not list housekeeping chores as the day of the week for that is not static. She would welcome sporadic visitors helping to tidy up and do small tasks around the house. Also, if you go to ACAC Downtown, she is going via the doctor referral program and could use a buddy/accountability or likes walks outside if the weather is nice.

You may find her calendar at http://www.carecalendar.org/logon/80706 and use 9734 as the passcode.

If you have questions or want to know other ways you may serve her, you can contact me (amcneely37@gmail.com). Thanks again for loving her in the ways you do so that she can let her body and mind rest.

  1. Thanks Andrea!

Katherine, I donated to your race, but didn't include an address for you, so I'm not sure if a card or anything will reach you ... just know that you have some funding coming your way! :)
