Yesterday, I started Trodelvy. Since I had chemo back in 2011, I knew some of what to expect - lab work, getting the IV put in (see cool vein finder below), pre-treatment drugs to help with nausea, allergic reaction, etc. But first, don the cape. Everything is better when you're wearing the cape. While I was getting the pre-treatment workup, I met with my oncologist, who confirmed that he really believed this was the right drug choice for me at this time, then the pharmacist, to understand all the side effects and get explanations on what drugs they'd be sending me home with - drugs to help with nausea, diarrhea, bone pain, and a steroid. I also had a nice visit with the chaplain, reconnected with the massage therapist, and got a lovely visit from Kenny the therapy dog.
Andrea came as my faithful support who's been with me on this journey from the beginning, even before Kevin joined in. I'm so thankful she can work anywhere with good wifi. She worked and held my hand while getting needles poked in and made me laugh and did conference calls in the lobby while waiting on the lunch delivery she sent out for when everything ran much longer than I had thought it would. And we didn't even get a selfie to document it. 🧐 (Did it even happen if we don't have a selfie?? LOL)
I'm happy to report that I didn't have an allergic reaction to the drug. Thank you for your prayers! That would have been so scary. Bonus that it means that next week's treatment can be infused in two hours rather than three. I'm also happy to report that, while apparently this drug can cause immediate diarrhea (as soon as the infusion starts even - I had no idea!), that did not happen to me. 💩🚫 We do not need a replay of Oops, I Pooped My Pants! (except we kind of do - that skit is hilarious.)
So far today, I'm feeling pretty good. I went and got a haircut to prepare for hair thinning (but not loss!) and am working on figuring out a rhythm for taking all these drugs that are on different time schedules. So far, so good. Thank you for your prayers. Please also pray for my friend Patti's family. Cancer stole her from this earth on Monday, and they are hurting. It wasn't supposed to be this way. One day all things will be made right. Lord, haste the day.
