Yesterday I started my second chemo cycle of two weeks on, one week off. And I was able to get chemo this time! My neutrophils were up to 2.4 after being only 0.5 two weeks ago! What a relief! It did take a lot of sticks to get to my veins to get the blood for the tests and insert the IV for the infusion, and they ended up having to use a small vein that's not ideal for a chemo infusion. We decided it was time to have a port installed to make it easier on all of us. I'll go for the little surgery to insert it into my chest and vein on June 16. The surgery has to be timed carefully so that I'm at my lowest risk of infection with the highest white blood cell count possible.
At yesterday's appointment, I enjoyed a foot massage from the breast care center's massage therapist, which was a huge treat! It seemed like my entire appointment was filled with little visits from various members of staff just checking in or saying hi. And of course I had my friend Rowena to keep me company and give me a ride. <3 It was a good day.
And so far I'm feeling good with this treatment. No nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea yet, so I'm also holding off on the drugs to treat those symptoms, since they had me vacillating between increased anxiety and extreme tiredness last time. New this cycle is giving myself Zarxio, a drug that will stimulate my bone marrow to grow neutrophils. I'll give it to myself on the three days following chemo. The first time was a bit daunting, but I'm sure it will get easier with more practice.
Overall, I'm hopeful again, and continue in thankfulness to God for His provisions - mercies new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.
